NCS Early October Happy Hour at O'Caseys

At an early October Happy Hour at O’Caseys, the NYC chapter had fun passing around a sketch pad to create drawings for an auction supporting a critically ill patient who was denied health coverage. With all the pens floating around, many of us took to drawing on the tablecloth which was fortunately made out of paper.

Attendees included [from left to right] Bobby Timony, Michael Kandalaft, Doug Bratton, Pam Melyan-Bratton, Mike Cavallaro, O'Casey's manager Tony, Tony Murphy, Marc Bilgrey, Isabella Bannerman, Ed Steckley, Ray Alma, Maria Scrivan and Farley Katz.

Isabella Bannerman was the winning cartoonist in the 2012 Union of Concerned Scientists Editorial Cartoon Contest! The theme of the contest was the important role science should play in American democracy and the barriers that get in the way. The contest concludes with the publication of a 2013 calendar, available through the UCS website (http://www.ucsusa.org/scientific_integrity/science_idol/2012-cartoon-contest-contestants.html), that features the work of 12 cartoonists. The calendar helps to raise money and to highlight the efforts of The Union of Concerned Scientists.

Other NCS members are part of a gallery show that is currently on display and will be up until January 6th, 2013. FIRST CONTACT: Aliens, UFOs and Broadway is at the Gallery New World Stages, located at 343 West 49th Street in NYC. The show highlights a 100 works of cartoon and comic art that includes pieces by syndicated cartoonists and contributors to The New Yorker. Cartoonists in the show include Marc Bilgrey, Dave Coverly, Bob Eckstein, Hilary Price, Maria Scrivan, Rick Stromoski, Shannon Wheeler and others. A portion of the sales will benefit the National Parkinson Foundation. More information about the show can be found at http://www.hangingart.org
