Irwin Hasen Remembered

"Irwin Hasen, the cartoonist and comic-book artist who drew, and helped create, “Dondi,” the widely syndicated comic strip about a lovable, wide-eyed World War II orphan, died on Friday in Manhattan. He was 96."

More HERE from the article by COREY KILGANNON in MARCH 15, 2015's New York Times "Arts" Section.

Irwin was a beloved friend and teacher, and a greatly-admired and highly-esteemed member of the New York cartoonists community. I was a student of his at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon & Graphic Art in the late 80's, and still have vivid memories of his lessons and anecdotes. It was always a treat whenever he made it out to our NCS Chapter get-togethers. Irwin had a long life, well-lived, but he'll still be greatly missed. They don't make 'em like that any more.

Jeff Keane to receive Silver T-Square Award

From the Washington Post
By Michael Cavna January 29 at 7:00 AM:

"IT’S ONE OF the oldest U.S. awards in comics, rich in history and lore, from presidents of the nation to presidents of its professional organization. And now, that award is also all in the family.

The National Cartoonists Society has just announced that Jeff Keane, the “Family Circus” artist and former head of the NCS, will receive the 2015 Silver T-Square Award — which the group says is “awarded, by unanimous vote of the NCS Board of Directors, to persons who have demonstrated outstanding dedication or service to the Society or the profession.”
